Midlands Mentoring Partnership is excited to announce our 2014 Mentor Advocate of the Year, Mutual of Omaha and Mutual of Omaha Foundation, nominated by Youth Emergency Services (YES). According to MMP Executive Director, Deborah Neary, “the Advocate of the Year award honors a business or organization that is committed to helping young people achieve their potential through mentoring.”
For the past five years, Mutual of Omaha and Mutual of Omaha Foundation have supported Youth Emergency Services by providing mentors, guidance and financial support. Meints stated “the leadership role Mutual of Omaha has taken with the mentoring program offered by YES has made a huge impact in helping our youth become more self-sufficient.”
The support from Mutual of Omaha and Mutual of Omaha Foundation expands beyond Youth Emergency Services. Mutual of Omaha has employees that serve as board members for five mentoring organizations in the community, as well as employees that serve as mentors for six mentoring organizations in the community. Furthermore, Mutual of Omaha Foundation provides financial support for eight mentoring organizations that are partner members of Midlands Mentoring Partnership. Mutual of Omaha supported the Kent Bellows Mentoring Program to create works of public art along Farnam Street this summer, Mutual of Omaha employees hosted engineering workshops for participants at Girls Inc. of Omaha, and they participated in the annual Day of Caring supporting another mentoring partner, Kids Can Community Center.
Companies, like Mutual of Omaha, that support mentoring by allowing employees time to volunteer for quality mentoring programs are developing the future work force, enhancing their public relations, and strengthening their employee base. Employees who are quality mentors that have been supported by their business in their volunteer endeavors have improved job satisfaction and company loyalty, accept more challenges at work and home, and learn leadership skills. Midlands Mentoring Partnership wishes to congratulate and thank Mutual of Omaha and Mutual of Omaha Foundation for their support of quality mentoring programs throughout Omaha.
