Happy February and Happy Nebraska Mentoring Month!
Earlier this month, I had the privilege of interviewing the incredible staff of our MENTOR Nebraska office. When I tell you it’s a fun group…that’s an understatement! Our local MENTOR staff is small but mighty and made up of some of the most kind, passionate and funny individuals.
I put some of them on the spot and asked some real hard-hitting questions about mentorship and they NAILED it! I’m so excited for you to hear their answers and learn more about why these people are so invested in the work they do. The young people in Nebraska are so fortunate to have this team advocating for them!
With it being Nebraska Mentoring Month, it was important for me to ask them what they thought it was most important for Nebraskan’s and the nation to know about! One of the most common answers? That ANYONE can be a mentor and we all need one. It’s so true!
One thing that Nebraska is doing specifically to grow mentoring relationships in our state, is encouraging state employees to participate in mentorship by offering paid mentoring leave time! By working closely with organizations like MENTOR NE, the state has developed a list of approved programs that employees can take part in. The fact that our state is making an active decision to promote and implement mentorship is HUGE and I’m so excited for future partnerships to come from this!
I encourage you to check out the full interviews and reflect on how you could take a step toward becoming a mentor. We each have something to pass along to the next generation and you never know if your story is just what someone else needs to succeed!
Enjoy!
