Description:
Recruiting male mentors is one of the biggest challenges programs report: the majority of mentors are female while the majority of youth in need of a mentor are male. Programs have learned that traditional recruitment techniques do not seem to motivate the male audience to become mentors. Though recruitment is a nationwide struggle, it is an issue that must be – and can be – solved locally.
We do know from research and practice that men become mentors when they are personally recruited and specifically invited to join a program. Mentor Michigan, in response to struggles from Michigan programs, created a toolkit to provide program staff and their trained mentor recruiters with language and tips to use when making the *ask*. This webinar will discuss the steps to recruit male mentors in a variety of settings and address the main components of a complete recruitment message.
Join us as we walk through these steps to recruit male mentors in a variety of settings and address the main components of a complete recruitment message. We are joined by Amber Troupe, Director of Mentor Michigan, which is Michigan's Mentoring Partnership, to review the toolkit, discuss what is included in a complete recruitment message as well as general considerations for recruiting male mentors, and how to target the *right* men and how to set the *right* tone.
